Red Pesto

Made according to a traditional Sicilian recipe, this Red Pesto is a tasty alternative to traditional Green Pesto. With a full-bodied taste of tomato and almonds and thick consistency, this sauce is truly authentic. Stir through pasta dishes or serve as a condiment to main or side dishes for a rich, nutty flavor experience.

The Sicilian Twist on a Classic

  • Originating in Sicily, Red Pesto is a rich and creamy variation of the classic Ligurian sauce. Made with sun-dried tomatoes as its main ingredient, this vibrant pesto combines the sweetness of tomatoes with the freshness of basil, extra virgin olive oil, and the delicate creaminess of ricotta cheese. The result is a smooth, balanced sauce – less sharp than traditional pesto, but full of Mediterranean flavor and character. Ideal for pasta, spreads, or as a creative twist in your favorite recipes.
  • DID YOU KNOW? While Ligurian pesto is famous for its basil, Sicily gave birth to Pesto Rosso, using the region’s prized sun-dried tomatoes. The addition of ricotta, a typical Sicilian cheese, is what makes Red Pesto unique: it softens the intense flavor of the tomatoes, giving the sauce a velvety texture. Like its green cousin, Red Pesto is prepared by blending or pounding the ingredients together – honoring Italy’s pesto-making tradition, with a southern twist.

Origin

Sicily:
the queen of the Mediterranean

Undoubtedly a region of unique beauty, the largest island in the Mediterranean boasts incredible wonders on both land and sea. It is the southernmost region of Italy and a treasure chest full of precious, ancient flavors.

Kissed by the sun, its fertile lands and pristine seas yield the ingredients that account for the island’s delicious cuisine and flavorful wines. Its climate accounts for the fact that it’s one of the most important producers of citrus fruit.

Like its landscape, Sicilian cuisine reflects a mix of colorful and intense flavors, with Arab, Greek, Spanish, and French influences.
